Becoming an animator
WHAT IS AN ANIMATOR
In each group, there is the need for an older person who, as a true friend to the youth, can assist them in developing their capacities. Those who perform this function are known as “animators”. The presence of the animator helps the members of the group to remain hopeful and convinced that they can not only protect themselves against the forces of moral decay operating in the society around them but also contribute to its betterment. Although serving in this capacity is not the exclusive prerogative of any particular age, youth seventeen and above tend to make excellent animators since they find it easy to treat junior youth as equals, not as children, encouraging them to ask questions, seek clarity, and engage in the investigation of reality.
TRAINING
The purpose of the training is to develop your capacity to serve your community. It helps develop the spiritual insight, knowledge, and skills needed. A sequence of courses through the Ruhi Institute has been developed to help with this. The training is open and explorative. Two courses from the sequence are listed below.
“REFLECTIONS ON THE LIFE OF THE SPIRIT”
This book explores our true nature as noble human beings, the role of prayer in our individual and collective lives, and the purpose of life, in order to examine our own role in contributing to the betterment of mankind.
“RELEASING THE POWERS OF JUNIOR YOUTH”
This book explores the potential of junior youth, the positive and negative influences that affect their development, and the skills needed to become an effective animator of a junior youth group.
