Junior Youth Spiritual Empowerment Program
PURPOSE
The purpose of the Junior Youth Spiritual Empowerment Program (JYSEP) is to empower moral leaders who can take an active role in the development of their communities. The program focuses on junior youth—young persons between the ages of 11 to 15—and considers them to have vast potential to contribute to the unity, well-being, and advancement of society.
PROTAGONISTS FOR SOCIAL CHANGE:
The group of peers that make up a junior youth group learn to read their social reality in light of their emerging sense of justice, organize their first initiatives of social action, and thereby develop their budding capacities to become protagonists of change.
PRIMARY LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
ENHANCING POWERS OF EXPRESSION
The enhancement of the power of expression involves more than the mere acquisition of the mechanical skills of reading, writing and speech. It requires the ability to read with good comprehension, express profound themes with eloquence and conviction, articulate concepts with reasonable precision.
STRENGTHENING MORAL REASONING CAPABILITIES
Empower them to channel their energies towards both strengthening their own character and to serving their community.
IDENTIFYING POSITIVE & NEGATIVE SOCIAL FORCES
Developing the ability to identify positive & negative social forces and their effects on our lives. Assist them to recognize the moral issues underlying everyday decisions and identify the moral implications of speech and action.
METHODOLOGY
The JYSEP is implemented by forming a junior youth group—a peer group of about 7 to 15 friends who meet on a weekly basis in order to:
Study materials developed to enhance their powers of expression
Plan and carry out service projects
Engage in cultural activities
Participate in recreation and special events
